Let’s Recall…the 2016 Presidential Election.
November 27, 2016
Jill Stein has been raising money for a recount in the battleground states of Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin. The current electoral votes are Trump’s 290 to Clinton’s 232. The electoral votes for the three states are as follows:
- Michigan: 16
- Wisconsin: 10
- Pennsylvania: 20
So what if the recall over turns all three states from Trump to Clinton the total will be as follows:
- Clinton – 278
- Trump – 260
That is more then the electoral votes then on election night. (That’s a big if.) What after the recalls only some of the states changed to Clinton. She would need to win all 3. The break down with her winning only 2 of the 3 states would be following.
Clinton wins MI and WI
- Clinton – 258
- Trump – 280
Clinton wins PA and MI
- Clinton – 268
- Trump – 270
Clinton wins PA and WI
- Clinton – 262
- Trump – 276
Now look at the popular vote totals right now are
- Clinton – 62,523,126
- Trump – 61,201,031
That is a narrow margin with is why we need to get rid of the archaic system of the electoral college. To do that will require an amendment that with a 2/3 majority in both the house and senate and then 3/4 of the states. With the Republicans in control of both houses of Congress, so they won’t pass it.
There is a campaign to change that with in the Constitution called the National Popular Vote that changes the electoral vote to be covered over the whole nations votes and not a winner take all of the states. Check that out.
