Problem with home labbing

I have a Docker box with Portainer where you can have containers running different apps. And that is the problem. What do I put on. Pi-Hole was a fail. But what do I put on it: Immich, Jellyfin, Bitwarden or something that runs video game roms? When I first decided to this I was worried that I would be in this predicament. I have a NAS box for years and it works great storing my videos, music, pictures, documents and software. Plus do I want to give it access to the outside with a VPN or reverse proxy. I will keep at it and hope to find some that satisfy my needs.

Homelabbing update

Thought I forgot what I set the admin password for my docker box, so I wiped it and started over. Only to find out after I installed Ubuntu server that it was in my password manager. Oh well, live and learn. I have Docker back up and Portainer installed.

News from the front of the Battle of the Bulge

I changed my app for my weight loss.  I was using MyFitnessPal.  I had a paid subscription, but it asks to sign up.  When I do it says I already have one.  I canceled it and uninstalled the app.  I changed to Lose It.  I can scan barcodes with it.  I hope I get a better expirence.

World Con Montreal Update

I paid my membership to the Montreal World Con. I will reserve my hotel room at a latter date. Thinking about getting a suite because I want to do a party room. Called it the Cosmic Lounge and have karaoke with food and drink.

Docker and Portainer – Home Labbing part 5

I am making progress on my Docker box. I was struggling with the Command Line Interface trying to get containers created and running. I wanted to have a Graphical User Interface and I found an app provides that and makes it much easier with Portainer.

I want to add more apps and I may want to have it be accessible to the outside that is safe. I have been looking into some ideas like Tailscale or a reverse proxy through a service like CloudFlare. I will keep you posted of my progress.

Headaches of tech

I built a box with docker on it and I am having headaches on trying to learn it. I plan on getting some info with YouTube videos.

My Rack (Home Lab part 3)

Bought a metal wire shelf so I can put my PCs for my home labbing project.

My Home Lab Setup

With my NAS box I added a Docker box and looking to gets some apps running on it.

Update on my home labbing project

I have talked before on my home labbing project. I am starting out but I have a NAS box I built with OpenMediaVault. It has one SSD for the operating system and two traditional HDD. This is where I keep backups of my pictures, documents, videos, music and software downloads.

My NAS Box

Now I am looking into getting a computer that I can put Docker containers to run apps on. Apps I am thinking of running is Jellyfin (videos), Immich (photos), RetroRom (video game roms), and much more. Planning to install Ubuntu Server as the operating system. Of the two PC the bigger one on the right is for that. The one on the left doesn’t have RAM or storage.

Future projects

You might be wondering where I get some of these PC. I work it IT so where I work was getting rid of PC in the picture labelled future projects. As for the NAS box I built that with parts I bought online and assembled them. I will keep you posted on the project.

Home Labbing

I work in IT and was looking on doing home labbing. Home labbing is a way to build your own server with VMs or Docker containers to run OS or Apps. I have started years ago making my own NAS box with OpenMediaVault. I use it to store my media files like my ripped CDs, DVDs, and Blu-Rays as well as my documents, music, pictures and software. I want to expand to other services like a PiHole or home automation.

Cosmic Lounge at Montreal World Con

I have been doing party room at Sci-Fi conventions for a few years now. I would have karaoke with non-alcoholic drinks and snacks. I don’t have alcohol because I can’t check IDs and run karaoke at the same time. I am planning getting a suite for the party room at Montreal World Con in 2027.
